Tour Details

Our journey begins in Medford Oregon, where we’ll orient and then head south over Mt. Ashland and into California, just past the town of Yreka, where we’ll turn onto the Gazelle-Callahan hwy, a glorious stretch of road winding through lush farmland and over the Etna Pass.  Then we’ll take Hwy 3 and enjoy the thrill of up-shifting and down-shifting as we make our way over and through the Trinity Alps, enjoying the shoreline of Trinity Lake as we cruise into Weaverville California for the night.

As if it couldn’t get better, Day 2 we’ll connect up with Hwy 36, one of the absolute best roads in all of California, making our way west towards the coast and abundant redwood trees.  At Hwy 101 we’ll turn south and soon exit onto the old highway, known as the Avenue Of The Giants, as in giant redwood trees and lush fern forests like you’ve never seen before.  The little town of Garberville will be our home for the night.

Day 3 we’ll head west on Matole Road and wind our way for two hours through what is known as The Lost Coast, a largely uninhabited coastal region that travelers the world over come to enjoy.  We’ll reconnect with Hwy 101 north, and then head east on Hwy 299, a beautiful stretch that takes us into Willow Creek for the night where we’ll stay at the Coho Cottages.

Our last day we head north on Hwy 96, following the Klamath River.  At the town of Happy Camp we’ll turn west onto the Jefferson State Hwy, up and over Greyback Mountain where you’ll enjoy twists, turns, and views from up top.  We’ll then head back down and veer east through the beautiful Applegate Valley and into Jacksonville Oregon, and then back to Medford where the tour concludes.  Late Spring is a great time of year to ride this entire tour as you’ll see endless lush, green hills, snow capped mountains, and flowers galore along the way.  Join us on this special trip you’ll remember for the rest of your life!

Itinerary

Day 1May 16

Our tour departs Medford Oregon and heads south over Mt. Ashland, making our way over the California boarder and along relaxing backroads to the Gazelle junction.  We’ll turn west on the Gazelle-Callahan Hwy, a paradise of lush farmland, then carve our way up and over the mountain pass and down towards Callahan.  At Hwy 3 we’ll turn south and ride right through the heart of the Trinity Alps, northern California’s little known gem.  This will take us along the shores of Trinity Lake, and then down into the quaint town of Weaverville, where we’ll enjoy lunch and time to walk and explore.  From there its a short ride to Indian Creek Lodge, where we’ll enjoy a leisurely evening and stay for the night.

Day 2May 17

Day 2 we”ll explore some of northern California’s best and most iconic landscape.  From Weaverville we’ll continue south on Hwy 3 and intersect with Hwy 36, which takes us west, all the way to Fortuna and Hwy 101.  This stretch of road is considered by many to be the best motorcycle road in all of California, and takes us toward the California coast and the giant redwood trees.  At Fortuna we’ll head south and make our way on The Avenue of The Giants, a slower byway that winds it’s way between a forest of giant redwood trees and lush ferns.  Make sure to have comfortable walking shoes handy to meander through some of the short trails offered along the way.  After a full day we’ll dine and lodge at Garberville for the night.

Day 3May 18

Today we’ll enjoy more of the redwood forest, then turn west on Mattole Road, winding its way out to the Pacific Ocean and through a largely uninhabited region known as The Lost Coast.  We’ll take our time on this backcountry road, stopping to enjoy the shores of the Pacific Ocean, then work our way back north to Hwy 299 which will take us east to Willow Creek, where we’ll stay at the Coho Lodges.  This day will fill your cup with an incredible diversity of both landscape and riding, offering simply spectacular scenery and feeding our sense of exploration around countless curves.

Day 4May 19

On our last day we’ll head north on Hwy 96, a relaxing and beautiful road that follows the Klamath River, with gentle sweepers and curves taking us all the way up to Happy Camp, a small junction where we’ll enjoy some great pizza.  From there we’ll branch off onto the Jefferson State Hwy which winds it’s way over Grayback Mountain, offering incredible views, and even snow along the road near the top.  Then we’ll pass through Cave Junction and turn east, where the picturesque Applegate Valley offers a pleathera of vineyards to escort us on our final stretch through historic Jacksonville, and then to Medford where our tour ends.

Route

The tour departs from Medford Oregon and heads south, over Mt Ashland and into northern California – making our way on backroads through Yreka and Gazelle, over the pass on the Gazelle-Callahan Rd to Hwy 3, then takes us on a symphony of beauty through the Trinity Alps and along Trinity Lake, a delight of upshifting and downshifting as we make our way into Weaverville for an enjoyable evening.  Day 2 we’ll head toward the coast on Hwy 36, the best road in California says more than a few riders.  At Hwy 101 we’ll turn south on The Avenue of The Giants, as in giant redwood trees and lush ferns, a magical afternoon as we make our way to the quaint little town of Garberville.  Day 3 we’ll explore The Lost Coast, a slower but wonderful ride taking us to the Pacific Ocean, then head back north to Hwy 299, and east to Willow Creek.  Day 4 we’ll take Hwy 96 along the Klamath River up to Happy Camp, then cut off on the Jefferson State Hwy, a desolate climb over Grayback Mountain offering vistas, sweepers, and twisties to our delight, taking us through Cave Junction and then west through the beautiful Applegate Valley to historic Jacksonville Oregon and back to Medford.

Accommodations

Our three nights of lodging on this trip will be at Indian Creek Lodge near Weaverville, the Humbolt House Inn in Garberville, and the Coho Cottages in Willow Creek.

The tour is priced for all riders to have single occupancy with their own room.

All riders have the option when you book to choose double occupancy (2 riders 2 beds, or 2 riders 1 bed) for all three nights if you book with another rider who you know and are willing to share a double occupancy room on all three nights.  This option lowers the cost for both riders.  Make sure to select “double occupancy” and “2 riders” when booking.

Please email or call Nick at Panoramic Moto Tours if you have questions about lodging.
